Introduction

Mrs. Sharmila Majumdar, the owner and founder of SWARUPINI, had a vision 5 years ago to open a portal for good quality hand-loom products and that at pocket friendly prices. Seeing the inflation in the Indian hand-loom market, she was determined to provide a platform for people to take home with them exquisite and unique sarees from a diverse and nationwide collection, that too at reasonable prices.

She resides in New Delhi. Has a family consisting of her husband who is a businessman, and 2 sons. She did her graduation in music from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad in West Bengal. Her family itself has a no. of musicians, scientists and teachers. Art and culture is in the blood, one might say. On a fateful evening in 2011, she decided to begin a venture in handloom textiles and so the journey began.

Swarupini, which essentially means embracing one’s beauty, actually popped up in one of her dreams and thus the name of the venture. It originates from the name of her spiritual guru, named, Swami Swarupananda.

The venture had it’s ups and downs but along the years it had become a formidable entity in the hand-loom market. Going from exhibition to exhibition, SWARUPINI is on its way to its ultimate goal, which indeed is to promote the hand-loom industry and to provide a nationwide platform for sale and purchase of hand-loom products.
